Houses in Portugal

As in almost everything else in Portugal, houses are very diverse in terms of prices, quality, design and type of construction.

In the center of Lisbon, prices are high no matter if the choice falls on buildings located in the historic area or in the newer areas of the city, whereas in the surroundings, and especially in the interior the prices can be quite low. The materials used also differ widely, ranging from cement and brick to granite, especially in the north of the country.

As Portugal is a country with mild temperatures, in which the sun is present throughout the year, houses are, as a rule, less thermally insulated. However, these are houses that are built to last, especially the oldest ones that have walls with impressive thicknesses that easily exceed half a meter.

As the country is the strip of land where Europe ends and the sea begins, this provides a huge coastal area with beautiful beaches and fantastic seascapes. The demand for this land is increasing and prices are also increasing. The typology of the houses is quite diversified, as well as the year of construction being possible to find buildings for sale from the 16th century to the present day.

Buying land or a house in Portugal is a bureaucratic process that can become extremely complicated. Consultation with experts in the field is strongly recommended and especially if you intend to build or make any changes to the existing structure.
